2012 Land Rover Defender

The newest EU5 2.2-litre diesel engine takes the place of the EU4 2.4-litre diesel while matching it for power, torque and fuel consumption. A fresh, full acoustic engine cover replaces the prior splash cover, decreasing radiated engine noise and enhancing driving sophistication. Getting together with EU5 rules, the engine provides reduced levels of the controlled emissions, NOx, CO and HC due to a much better combustion system and innovative engine managing system.

Regardless of the lesser capacity and lowered emissions, the new engine generates the same power, 122PS@3,500rpm and torque, 360Nm@2,000rpm, as the outgoing 2.4-litre engine. Performance stays equivalent too, although the top speed is raised to 90mph in comparison to 82mph for the former edition. CO2 emissions on the joint cycle are steady at 266g/km for the 90 and 295g/km for the 110 and 130.

The GFT MT 82 six-speed gearbox has been kept for 2012 featuring its excellent ratio spread, high top gear for cruising and boosted low-speed crawl potential. The reduced first gear offers low crawl speed making towing on-road and off-road incredibly easier. The low-down engine torque can also help in-gear velocity and the tall sixth gear guarantees exceptional real-world cruising, refinement and fuel economy. Ground gears both in the gearbox and transfer box help promote the sophistication of the transmission.

The 2012 Land Rover Defender is offered from £20,995 on the highway and will be in the UK from November 2011.
