Much paraded options of the brand new automobile were the FrontBass system and the adaptive windscreen wipe/wash device MAGIC VISION CONTROL. The V8 SL 500 develops 435bhp and 700Nm and does the 0 to 100km/h sprint in 4.6 seconds at the same time as the V6 SL 350 develops 306bhp and 370 Nm and reaches a ton in 5.9 seconds; the latter is relatively the econo-mover boasting a gas economy of 6.8l/100km.

The sixth generation SL has a magnesium body vario-roof that can be retracted in less than 20 seconds and three variations of the roof are being offered: painted, with glass roof or with the unique panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL. The HANDS-FREE ACCESS supplies contactless operation of the boot lid. Simply transfer your foot within the vicinity of the rear bumper and the bootlid opens or closes automatically, the primary of its type on any car. Specifications and pricing for the SL-Class are yet to be confirmed however it'll go on sale in the UK in July 2012.
