Tips On Detailing A Car - Interior

Tips on detailing a car can help you preserve the value of your car. Because a vehicle is a large investment for most people, it makes good sense to take good care of it.

Your car is a reflection on who you are and keeping your car clean leaves the impression that you care about yourself and your possessions. Most of us want to drive around in a clean, shiny car; it gives us a sense of pride.

These tips on detailing a car will cover how you can care for the interior or living room if you will, of your vehicle.

Interior
When using your car, the interior is what you see the most of. Keeping it clean on the inside makes a more pleasurable drive.

Begin by cleaning out all the clutter. For many of us, our cars can serve as a dining room as well. So shovel out the Burger King bags and Kentucky Fried Chicken buckets so you can see what is under all those wrappers.

Next, vacuum all the seats, carpets, floor mats and anywhere on the interior where there is cloth. Don't forget the back window area and the trunk.

Some areas will require a soft brush attached to the vacuum, and others will require a long skinny extension to get into the smaller tighter areas. Having these attachments will help you do a more thorough job while you vacuum.

Now that you have the first and second layer removed, assess the carpets and seats to see if there are stains that need to be spot cleaned. Or perhaps there is a need to shampoo the entire interior.

Use upholstery cleaner and a rag to do any spot cleaning. Spray a bit of cleaner on the rag and aggressively scrub the stain until it disappears.

If you feel it actually needs to be shampooed, you may want to rent a small machine such as the Bissell Green Machine. This will accelerate the cleaning solution into the upholstery to help dislodge the grime and dirt. Then, the suction action will remove and lift the debris into the vacuum.

Now that the carpets, floor mats and seats are clean, it is time for the dashboard and council area. This is where a make-up brush and toothbrush can come in handy.

Use the make-up brush to dust out the vents and around the knobs. The bristles of the make-up brush will do quick work over trying to stuff a rag into the crevices of these areas.

For areas where there may be soda stickiness, use a mixture of all-purpose Simple Green and water to help lift up the goop. A tooth brush can be used to clean areas such as cup holders and the council area, under the emergency brake and the glove box crevices.

Once the dashboard and council are back in tip-top shape, it is time to clean the inside of the windows. Use a glass cleaner and paper towels to remove sometimes unseen grime from the interior windows.
