Hyundai Sonata
"The Sonata sets an all new tradition for top class mid-size sedans of modern technology, outstanding construction quality and emotive design," said Euisun Chung, Hyundai's Vice Chairman at the launching ceremony for the car in Seoul. "The new Sonata will increase Hyundai's brand worth."
The Sonata also features a clean interior with a fashionable design that's in accordance with the Korean company's newest merchandise like the new Tucson / ix35 SUV which was shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Size-wise the Sonata is 4,820mm long, 1,835mm wide and 1,470mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,795mm making it slightly longer and wider but at the same time lower than the outbound model.
The Sonata, that could be sold with a diverse name in some locations (e.g. i40 in Europe), will be available at release in its home market with a 2.0-liter Theta II MPi gasoline engine with 165HP and an LPG version that makes 144HP. Both engines are combined with a new six-speed automatic transmission.
Hyundai asserted it plans to add 2.4 liter Theta II GDI gasoline engine to the array in January next year. This engine will be offered as common on the U.S. market model.
Hyundai said that it began developing the new Sonata in 2005 under the codename YF with the venture costing a whole heck of 450 billion (US$ 372 million) from concept to production.
