The perfect balance of the driving pleasure and ease of everyday use is what captivates the Fairlady Z to it’s owners. However, many of these enthusiasts aspired for a Fairlady Z that was geared more closer to the motor sports field. Since NISMO has gained inestimable experience in racing technology in Super GT and Super Taikyu racing, a real Fairlady Z that gratifies the passionate enthusiasts was thoughtfully created. A machine that embodies the true racing spirit can only be made by NISMO.
The exclusive 3.8-liter engine mounted in the 380RS is a detuned, street version of the racing engine used in the 380RS-C. The engine displacement remains the same, while the intake manifold and exhaust, air-fuel ratio, ignition timing, VTC and other specs have been optimized for street use. The biggest plus in the 3.8-liter engine is its materials. Assembled using many of the same parts as those found in racing engines, it provides both high performance and long-lasting reliability. For example, the pistons are forged from a super-strong, special aluminum. The crankshaft and connecting rod are likewise manufactured from a special strengthened material. In addition, the camshaft cam profile, valve lift volume, valve springs and other parts were all originally designed for racing.
Not only does the extended 90mm front nose fascia create tremendous downforce of the machine, but like the Super GT vehicles, the incoming air is directed to the front wheel wells of the chassis. The front underspoiler effectively sends the air to the rear diffuser, and along with the dual deck rear spoiler, vehicle lift is kept at a minus level. The side sill protector enhances the sleek exterior qualities of the Fairlady Z while smoothing the air flow in the area between the front and rear wheels. The large diameter, all stainless steel muffler setup amongst other parts were designed to freely counterpart with the entire vehicle, to maintain the racing sensation in its finest form.
The Version NISMO’s aerodynamic and chassis performance was planned from the initial stages of development for the use of the 3.8-liter engine. Thus the Version NISMO and 380RS were planned and developed as part of a single, consistent Version NISMO Series. Driving the 380RS, you once again recognize the performance of the Version NISMO. Because it’s NISMO, you can sense the high level of accomplishment and quality, and the fun driving feeling and excellent handling.
The full enjoyment of sport driving in the 380RS extends to its interior design. The steering wheel, shift knob and parking brake lever are all covered in a rich red leather, while the gray seatbelts add to the overall design concept and increase the racy feeling of the car. The center section of the seats are made of special punch-processed Alcantara®. The use of this anti-slide material keeps the driver firmly in the seat, even during cornering and other maneuvers. The racing design extends to a speedometer that advances the display to 260kph, and heel-and-toe control pedals.
